Upper North Island

A few sunny spells however high cloud will thicken, the odd light shower possible from evening then expect overnight rain. North to northeasterly winds pick up from afternoon becoming strong about some coastal areas overnight.

Lower North Island

High cloud thickens although the east coast may see areas of sun last a little longer into the day. Areas of rain move into the west from evening spreading into the east coast later on / overnight. North to northeasterly winds freshen becoming strong overnight in some coastal areas.

Upper South Island

Cloudy for the West Coast, drizzle from afternoon turns to rain late afternoon / evening then becoming heavy. Thunderstorms possible overnight for North Westland. Marlborough and Nelson especially will see heavy rain later in the evening / overnight. Canterbury sees high cloud thicken from morning, patchy rain or drizzle from late afternoon / evening then rain moves in overnight. Northeasterlies freshen becoming strong overnight about the coast.

Lower South Island

Otago has thickening high cloud, drizzle from evening then rain overnight with heavy falls possible. Southland sees thickening high cloud, patchy drizzle from afternoon then some overnight rain, easterlies freshen tending southeast overnight.
