A moderate to strong northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today with a front moving onto the lower South Island this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas with west to southwesterly winds, any showers about in the early morning clear.
Highs: 21-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Areas of cloud with the chance of a shower, mainly morning. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Eastern North Island

Mainly sunny with west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 23-25

Wellington

Sunny areas with brisk to strong northwesterly winds.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, northwesterly winds becoming gusty after midday for Marlborough.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, chance spot of rain later in the evening otherwise mainly dry. Northwesterly winds, a little gusty at times from afternoon mainly inland.
High: 21

West Coast

Showers, a period of rain moves through South Westland in the afternoon reaching North Westland by evening. Rain may be heavy for a time with thunderstorms.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago

Showers then some rain, moving into Southland around midday then Otago during the afternoon before clearing away in the evening. Strong west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-17
