A front moves northwards over the South Island today then onto the lower North Island overnight, a breezy to strong northwest airflow ahead of the front then changing cooler southwest once it moves through.

Sunny areas and increasing cloud, chance of a late evening or overnight shower. Bay Of Plenty sees drizzle from evening. Northerly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with the odd shower possible, rain moves in later in the evening or overnight. Breezy north to northwesterly winds.

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, becoming gusty about southern Wairarapa. Some high cloud thickens from evening.
Becoming mostly cloudy in the morning, chance of the odd shower then some rain develops later in the evening or overnight. Strong northwesterly winds.

Marlborough & Nelson
High cloud thickens from morning, north to northwesterly winds gusty at times after midday. Overnight showers with a southerly change.
Thick high cloud with a few spots of rain possible. Northwesterly winds, gusty at times especially inland. Mid afternoon a southwest change pushes into South Canterbury reaching North Canterbury by evening bringing showers.
Rain with heavy falls spreading northwards during the day, heavy falls reach North Westland around midday. Easing later in the evening as northwesterly winds change southwest.

Morning rain eases then clears to a few sunny areas, showers move in late afternoon or evening, possibly heavy with a risk of hail. West to southwesterly winds become gusty later in the day.
