An anticyclone spreads a ridge over the South Island early this morning then a northwesterly airflow builds. The ridge moves onto the North Island this afternoon. Most places can expect a settled day although there may be a few morning showers along the North Island’s east coast. Some rain moves into Fiordland overnight.
Northland
Mostly sunny with southeasterly winds, easing from midday.
Mostly sunny with southerly winds tending southwest later in the
afternoon.
Mostly sunny with light northeasterlies from afternoon.

Central North Island & Waikato
Mostly sunny with light southerlies tending southwest by midday.
Highs: 15-18
Eastern North Island
Chance of a remaining morning shower any of which clear, sunny spells
gradually increase with cool southwesterlies dying out in the evening.
Mostly sunny with southerlies tending southwesterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-17
Western North Island
Sunny spells increase from morning, mostly sunny by midday. Light
winds.
Morning cloud breaks to sunny weather by midday, northerlies freshen from
afternoon.
Sunny with light winds at first then tending northerly in the
afternoon.
Sunny with light winds after a cold start, northwesterlies pick up late
afternoon or evening.
Sunny with easterlies freshening from morning near the coast, light winds
inland pick up from the northwest later in the day.
Mostly sunny with northwesterly breezes, cloud increases about South
Westland from afternoon and further north in the evening. Rain moves into
Fiordland overnight.

Coastal Otago
Mostly sunny with light northeasterlies, high cloud increases
evening.
Mostly sunny with light northwesterlies, some high cloud developing from
midday.
Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, some high cloud gradually increases
then thickens in the evening. Overnight a cold southwest change brings
showers.
