A low pressure system brings rain to the upper North Island today, moving south as the day goes on. Meanwhile another front brings areas of rain or showers south of about Banks Peninsula on the east coast of the South Island through to coastal Otago. Some snow in the south to 500m.

Northland
Cloudy with rain spreading down from the north from morning, moving into southern parts of Northland by afternoon. Rain heavy about eastern Northland mid afternoon through till evening then easing. Brisk easterly winds tending southeast in the evening.
Highs: 14-15

Auckland

High cloud thickening from morning, easterly winds freshening and tending
southeast by evening. A few showers move in late afternoon, especially in the
north. Rain moves in about the same time about Great Barrier Island /
Coromandel.
High: 14-15

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and some high cloud thickening from afternoon, light winds at
first then easterlies building from midday. Showers move in later in the
evening.
Highs: 13

Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny areas and some high cloud, thickening from late afternoon. Light east
to southeast winds. Easterlies build about the Waikato from afternoon with
showers moving in later in the evening.
High: 12

Eastern North Island

Sunny spells with light southwesterlies, cloud thickens from evening then
showers move in overnight.
High: 12-13

Taranaki

Sunny areas and some high cloud, thickening later in the day. Southeasterly
winds, freshening from afternoon.
High: 13

Western North Island

Sunny spells and some increasing cloud, light easterlies.
High: 12

Wellington

Cloudy periods with southerly winds. Chance of a shower at times otherwise
dry.
High: 9

Nelson

Mostly sunny with some high cloud possible, light winds tending
southerly.
High: 11

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with light winds tending southerly.
High: 11

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy with southwesterly winds. Areas of rain south of about Banks
Peninsula, some snow down to 600 possibly 500m.
Highs: 8-9

West Coast

Sunny with light winds tending southeasterly about South Westland. Some
high cloud possible.
Highs: 10-12

Coastal Otago

Cloudy with the odd light shower possible, showers becoming more persistent
from afternoon as light winds freshen from the south. Rain about North Otago
from afternoon then easing overnight. Some snow to 500m.
Highs: 8-9

Central Otago

Cloudy periods from morning with light southeasterlies. A few showers in
the northeast afternoon onwards.
Highs: 4-6

Southland

Cloudy periods develop AM with light easterly quarter winds, chance of a
sunny break now and then.
High: 8
