A south to southeasterly airflow lies over most of the country today, sandwiched between a low pressure system slowly moving eastwards over the North Island and an anticyclone centred west of the South Island. Expect rain for the east of the North Island and the odd morning shower clearing elsewhere about the upper South Island and rest of the North Island. There is the risk of isolated afternoon showers about inland North Island areas, possibly bringing thunderstorms and heavy downpours.

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning rain or showers clearing with sunny spells developing. Winds from
the east or southeast, tending more southwest about the Waikato in the
afternoon. During the afternoon isolated showers develop again, some may become
heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later in the evening.

Eastern North Island
Cloudy with rain, easing during the afternoon but still persisting for the
rest of the day. Easterlies tend southeast by evening.
Early rain clears and sunny spells develop, southeasterly winds in the
morning then winds tend more southerly in the afternoon. Risk of a brief shower
or two at times during the afternoon.

Western North Island
Cloudy areas with brief rain at times, especially in the morning with
longer dry spells in the afternoon. Southeasterly breezes.
Mostly cloudy with brief rain at times, dry spells too. Southeasterly
breezes.
Morning showers clear then expect sunny spells with southeasterly breezes.
There is the low risk of a brief spot of rain at times spreading from the east
for the remainder of the day but it should be mostly dry.

drizzle about the coast about and north of Banks Peninsula. Southerly breezes.

shower inland.
