Risk of slips for windy Wellington

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Rain and winds forecast for Wellington this weekend will put already sodden areas at risk of further landslips.

Three people were forced from their home after a slip in Karori yesterday afternoon, while another slip forced the closure of Newtown’s BP petrol station this morning.

Weather ambassador Bob McDavitt says the chance of further slips will largely depend on how much wind hits the area.

He says during Sunday and Monday, the winds will turn cold southeasterly, and some areas will have different exposure to the wind, so the amount of rain they require to slip will be different.
