While Auckland and northern New Zealand have a wet and windy day on the way other parts of the country will see a return to warm, sunny, weather – even if it is a little breezy in some places today.
While today won’t be overly warm we will see a return to more summer-like heat tomorrow.
North Island – Taupo southwards:
Western areas south of Taranaki should see a sunny, warm, weekend with highs in the low 20s. Light winds will move in from the east.
In Wellington the temperature gauge should finally reach 20 degrees in the city with the low 20s expected in Hutt Valley and around Porirua along with sea breezes. On Sunday there is the risk of cloud and some light rain.
South Island
Today cloudy periods and winds coming from the easterly quarter will keep temperatures down a little but still up from yesterday. Tomorrow it gets even better for those in Santa parades with sunny skies for all the main centres and no sign of rain. Temperatures in the low 20s will most likely be welcome.
Some cloud may build around Southland ahead of an approaching front, with late showers possible – then rain or showers will spread right up the South Island on Sunday.
