A low centred to the northeast of the North Island and a large high in the Tasman Sea direct a southerly airflow over New Zealand today.

North Island
The odd isolated shower for the upper North Island, especially this afternoon just south of Auckland, about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty. These showers may become heavy with thunder then easing later this evening. Some cloud and the odd shower for the lower western North Island (Taranaki through to Kapiti), dry spells increasing for some this afternoon. Areas of rain or showers along the east coast.

South Island
There may be some drizzle this morning north of about Otago Peninsula and for Canterbury then drying out from afternoon. Mainly dry elsewhere for the South Island today.
