Rainwatch for Jan 3rd

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Many regions around the country see rain or showers today as we have a low pressure system moving eastwards across central New Zealand. Expect northerly winds in the north and southerlies for the South Island. Southerly winds push onto the lower North Island this afternoon then further north overnight.

Once again rain or showers are expected for many regions, the heaviest falls will be about the Bay Of Plenty especially in the east and also about Marlborough and possibly Nelson this morning before easing a little. North Canterbury sees some reasonable rain today also which is good news for the dry ground there.

The West Coast of the South Island looks to be the driest spot as rain is blocked by the Southern Alps.
