The government forecaster has issued rain warnings for Auckland, Northland, Coromandel Peninsula, Gisborne, Bay of Plenty and Rotorua.

Northland
Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Northland Rain is expected to become heavy in the Far North around midday Monday and spread south during the afternoon. In the 18 hours from midday Monday to 6am Tuesday, expect 100 to 150mm of rain about the eastern hills, with 70 to 100mm elsewhere. Rainfall rates could briefly reach 25 to 50mm per hour in the east for a time Monday evening.
Auckland
Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Auckland, mainly north of Orewa Heavy rain is expected to develop late Monday afternoon or evening. In the 18 hours from 4pm Monday to 10am Tuesday, expect 90 to 120mm of rain north of Orewa, especially about the hills, with 50 to 80mm likely elsewhere. Rainfall rates could briefly reach 25 to 40mm per hour in the north for a time overnight Monday.
Coromandel
Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Coromandel Peninsula Heavy rain is expected to develop late Monday afternoon or evening. In the 18 to 20 hours starting around 5pm Monday, expect 120 to 180mm of rain about the ranges, with 70 to 100mm elsewhere. Rainfall rates could briefly reach 25 to 50mm per hour for a time overnight Monday, especially about the ranges.
Bay Of Plenty
Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Bay of Plenty Heavy rain is expected to develop late Monday. In the 18 hours starting about 9pm Monday west of Te Puke and midnight further east, expect 100 to 150mm of rain about the ranges, with 70 to 100mm elsewhere. Heaviest falls are expected early Tuesday morning when rates could reach 25 to 40mm per hour, especially about the ranges.
Rotorua
Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Bay of Plenty Heavy rain is expected to develop late Monday. In the 18 hours starting about 9pm Monday west of Te Puke and midnight further east, expect 100 to 150mm of rain about the ranges, with 70 to 100mm elsewhere. Heaviest falls are expected early Tuesday morning when rates could reach 25 to 40mm per hour, especially about the ranges.
Gisborne
Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Gisborne Rain is expected to develop early Monday and become heavy in the evening. In the 24 hours from 6pm Monday to 6pm Tuesday, expect 100 to 150mm of rain north of Tologa Bay, with 70 to 100mm elsewhere. Heaviest falls are expected early Tuesday morning when rates could reach 25 to 40mm per hour, mainly in the north.

in whitianga its been raining heavily and steady since last night but all weather ive seen didnt tell us this was coming we only heard to expect it from 4pm today. is what we have been getting all night and today part of whats coming or is it something seperate?.

My aunty has been in nz for 6 weeks, 3 days of rain total. GREAT. She is taking us to the sky tower for dinner Monday night, STINK!!!

Hi there – it depends on the angle of the rain bands – at this stage they are coming down the Firth of Thames – they need to move from this direction or from the north west for you to get those sorts of numbers…but unfortunately it looks as though it may tilt to the north east this afternoon – which isn’t your wettest direction. Closer to 50mm or even a little less is probably more likely based on this mornings data. Heaviest rain will be overnight for you we think.
