why is it when met service issue rain warnings for the west coast and alps, they include christchurch? sure there will be some spillover for about 15kms and the waimak may rise eventually..but to us in chch..heavy rain in the alps means a hot dry day here in the city..not rain!

Hi Pete,
We’ve actually raised this with MetService a few times as we believe it leads to confusion. However MetService say it’s done this way because it can affect rivers that people in the east use.
We believe a sepereate flood warning or flood watch would be a better way of covering it, if it’s really that severe for those in the east
