4:40pm – final update.
Rain remains heavy across eastern parts of the North Island, especially the Coromandel Peninsula.
Auckland has been spared the afternoon rain thanks to the sheltering effect of the Coromandel rangtes.
WeatherWatch.co.nz is advising motorists to watch for surface flooding in the above places. Rock falls and small slips are also quite likely from East Cape to Wairoa, including the SH2 between Napier and Wairoa and SH2 between Gisborne and Whakatane.

It’s not raining at the Mount right now, but looking at MetServices rain radar, looks like we’re in for more? be great if there was some thunder included in that rain band… wishful thinking 😉
