Rain Tracker Text Update 11am Update
NORTH ISLAND: As of 11am heavy rain was moving across the bottom half of the North Island with lighter falls north of Taupo. The front is slowly inching northwards and will move into Waitomo and Waikato this afternoon as showers then rain.
SOUTH ISLAND: The main rain band lies over northern parts of the South Island with showers affecting Southland. The rain/showers will ease over the north this afternoon.
RAIN OUTLOOK: Rain will slowly slide northwards moving into Auckland by the end of the day.
SUNDAY UPDATES: Rain or showers will affect most regions during Sunday so we won’t be updating the Rain Tracker as often.

What is the Rain Tracker?
Using the latest rain radar images we’ll plot where the rain bands or showers lie – then in easy-to-read text we’ll tell you where the wet stuff is, who’s likely to get it and how long it will last.
Why bother checking the Rain Tracker updates?
Not everyone can read rain radars so we’ll figure out whether the rain/showers will be heavy enough to ruin your time outside. Whether you want to hang out the washing, paint your fence, enjoy a picnic, or just enjoy some much needed R&R outdoors. Essentially, the Rain Tracker helps you better plan your time outdoors.
Why don’t you display the actual radar images?
We’d love to – but the NZ Government limits what we can access and display. We’re working closely and positively with MetService and hope some day it will be free to display, however at this stage that doesn’t look likely to happen anytime soon.
How often is the Rain Tracker updated?
Frequently during daylight hours when we have rain or showers about. If it’s a dry day for most places then obviously updates are only issued when conditions change.
When does the first update begin?
Before 5pm on Friday we’ll have one update – in case you’re planning on a BBQ or dinner outside. Updates will then continue during daylight hours across Saturday & Sunday.
Is the Rain Tracker permanent?
Nope, not just yet! We’re simply trialling it – and we’d really appreciate your thoughts or comments!
