Rain & Thunderstorms still on the way for northern New Zealand

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Rain, possibly heavy at times, is still on the way for northern New Zealand in the latest forecasts by WeatherWatch.co.nz.

In the most recent computer models a period of heavy rain is still predicted for Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and other western regions late Tuesday and on Wednesday.

WeatherWatch.co.nz head weather analyst Philip Duncan says the latest data is also looking positive.  “This is the strongest indication yet that solid rain will fall over northern and western New Zealand starting late Tuesday and easing Wednesday”.

He says some computer models have 100% confidence which is rare.

“Personally I don’t want to give out false hope to those needing water so I’m going to hold off on being 100% sure until Tuesday but it’s certainly looking positive” says Mr Duncan.

WeatherWatch.co.nz has 80% confidence of thunderstorms in Auckland and Northland tomorrow afternoon or evening.

MetService is still predicting heavy falls tomorrow night in Northland along with thunderstorms.

Yes, that may be OK but I don’t want to hear of media reports of goodrain falling to levels in drought areas of Northland when the rain was expected.
