Rain, snow and big waves – the outlook for the weekend (+4 Maps)

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A low pressure system in the Tasman Sea will push rainfall totals up on the West Coast and help drive in big waves to the western side of both islands, in particular the western North Island.

Colder air around the Southern Alps will see snow falling there too.

The low clears NZ tonight/early Saturday then a westerly flow kicks in for most regions. Therefore eastern areas have mild winds and above normal temperatures this weekend. Eastern Northland, Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne, Canterbury, Marlborough and parts of Otago all have daytime highs around the late teens and early 20s this weekend.
