Invercargill having the third coldest minimum today of -5.4 C behind Greymouth and Queenstown. Meanwhile here in Northland our max was 17.5 C. 😉

Lol, why ‘Southland’ like? Any central areas of NZ can have temps like that quite often or even worse!!

John on 4/07/2012 4:13am

Because at a latitude of 46 degrees south Southland is only slightly less nearer to Antarctica than Tierra del Fuego. Hence to the rest of NZers it is an icebox.

Oh dear – yet other places further north tend to have harder frosts. Can’t change an ‘ingrained’ perception I guess.

. . . and maybe one day Auckland will get Southland like temperatures and crack 30 degrees!
