We’ve received reports of scattered power outages this afternoon near Sheffield, Darfield, Kirwee, Hororata and Springfield.
WeatherWatch.co.nz Helen Leggatt said that they kept losing power near Sheffield around 1:20 pm today. She said that they were experiencing “horrendous gales and horizontal rain”
Orion New Zealand Limited said that strong winds caused the outages and they expected all power to be restored this afternoon. As of 1:50 pm they reported that power had been restored to all but the Hororata and Springfield areas.

That’s nothing. We had a power outage on Thursday in the afternoon for an hour or so in West Melton in fine weather!!!??
