Power was out to a large part of South Auckland after a burst of heavy rain this morning.
The blackout covered Otahuhu, Papatoetoe and Mangere and knocked out some traffic lights in the area.
Vector Communications Manager, Sandy Hodge, says around 2200 households were affected.
“There’s a Mangere East feeder, which looks as though it was taken about 3:25am when the bad weather came through.
“The fault we’re patrolling at the moment, obviously we think some vegetation has struck some lines out there with the bad weather.”
Vector communications manager Sandy Hodge says crews are working on the fault and had hoped to have power restored by around 7.30am.

Is this why the electric trains were running 20 mins late this morning? Maybe no power backup for trains.
