POLL RESULTS: Nearly half of kiwis are ‘too dry’ heading into summer

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A fortnight ago, we asked how many New Zealanders were concerned about the drying out of eastern and inland parts of the country as we head into summer proper, after a very tough finish to spring for many people.

After a big increase in voting numbers towards the end of another dry week, we wanted to give everyone another go – and let our poll run for another week!

The wait was worth it too, with many people either changing or adding their vote to the poll – and the results proved surprising.

There was just over 40% support for both “too dry” and “no problems” as answers, while the remaining 18% aren’t bothered one way or another – maybe those who don’t have large properties to worry them.

It’s concerning that such a large percentage of our voters are worried, because many of our readers are spread out around the country, showing the prevalence of the effects of a dry spring.
