Poll results – 13% of Kiwis have never travelled to the South Island

> From the WeatherWatch archives

When we at WeatherWatch.co.nz first discussed the idea for this week’s poll, there was a bit of skepticism around the place – as to whether we would see anyone at all who hasn’t been to both islands of New Zealand.

Well, our readers certainly showed that is was worthy of asking – because 13%, or around one in every ten New Zealanders has not seen the South Island during their lifetime, at least based on the results of our poll.

Of those who have made the trip, several of our commenters noted that they’ve only been to one city in the South Island – Christchurch.

Now while we thoroughly encourage everyone on our site to see as much of our beautiful country as possible, we understand not everyone has the health, family or financial circumstances to get around.

Having said that, both islands have so much to see and do, it would be remiss of us here at WeatherWatch.co.nz not to say – get out there and enjoy the great outdoors, and see everything and everyone you can around New Zealand – because things won’t be the same forever!

I guess that means that people who live in the South Island have a better overall understanding of our beautiful country than North Islanders do?!  So that is why the South Island is called the ‘Mainland’?
