Updated 11:32pm — The coldest surge of air this week spread north across the North Island Thursday night bringing snow to low levels.
WeatherWatch.co.nz has had reports of snow near Upper Hutt (Rimutakas), in Taihape and Stratford, plus snow falling here and there across parts of Canterbury, Otago and Southland.
Warmer weather returns to many parts of NZ next week, or even by this weekend.

As of 12.30am Friday 15th AUG we are getting passing snow showers here in Richmond Heights, Taupo (about 5km SE of Taupo township). We are at around 420 metres above sea level here.Interestingly I noticed the temperature shot up by 2 or 3 degrees just before the snow arrived, then dropped back down again as the snow started.
