Heavy snow is causing chaos in the South Island.
Police are warning motorists to take extreme care and ideally to delay travel plans if at all possible. There have already been several car crashes in the Queenstown area this morning.
A number of roads are closed, including the Lindis Pass and State Highway 8 between Fairlie and Tekapo, as well as State Highway 80 from Pukaki to Mount Cook.
Chains are required for Porters Pass, Arthurs Pass and State Highway 85 between Ranfurly and Omakau which are closed to towing vehicles. Chains are also to be carried on the Milford Road.

Hello

The weather patterns seem all around the wrong way this year. Just not favouring snow to sea level yet. It can snow in Chch anytime between now and October so there’s still plenty of time for a decent southerly to blast its way up.
Cheers

Hi Diana,
Probably not.. the cold front isn’t going to have much impact on the North Island north of about Wellington. But certainly it will be a little cooler.
