Yesterday saw some of the best photographic weather we’ve seen so far this year.
WeatherWatch.co.nz photographers jumped at the chance to capture the towering thunder clouds as they moved over Northland, Auckland and Waikato.

Taken at 4.03 18th May,2010, looking towards Mt Roskill. SE from New Lynn. A close up image of the cumulus. Looking like a tunnel. Wind swung around to W for awhile as the storm moved southwards.

Cold air from rear of a line of thunder storms was pushing all the early morning mist up in a weak up draught to form this roll cloud over the Puhipuhi plateau 30kms to the NE of Whangarei at first light. It was moving at 30 knots and very impressive. Uploaded by: Paul Rockell
