Photo of the Week: A (sort of) solar eclipse in Motueka

> From the WeatherWatch archives

While the world was focused on the historic total solar eclipse from coast to coast in the United States this week someone in New Zealand captured a great photo of the sun setting behind Mt Campbell.

To be fair the eclipse in the US was caused by the moon squarely crossing in front of the sun – in this case it’s simply the sun setting behind the radio/TV tower located on Mt Campbell, Motueka in the Upper South Island.

Grant Henley took this awesome photo and uploaded it directly to WeatherWatch.co.nz (thanks Grant!).

Sun setting behind Mt Campbell about 10km inland from Motueka township. Used special sun filter to take photo” wrote Grant Heney. The photo was taken 19th Aug, 2017.
