It’s a colder than average day today in some parts of the South Island, with Canterbury especially below average. Tonight temperatures drop further as the southerly flow is replaced by high pressure – locking in the colder air.
Overnight lows tonight around Northern Southland and inland Canterbury could drop to near zero, with +3 expected in Lumsden and even into some parts of the Canterbury plains.
Coastal areas won’t be so cool tonight, and by Thursday and Friday warmer airflows return.
