Northwesters continue; warm and windy for many: The Big Picture on Wednesday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The same northwesterly airflow still lies over the country on Wednesday, strengthening over the South Island and lower North Island during the day.

The North Island is fairly cloudy as a result, although some sun shines through for Northland and Auckland, and there may be a shower or two in the west and north – otherwise it should be mainly dry.
Overnight showers, meanwhile, move onto the southwestern corner of the North Island.
The East Coast is mostly sunny with some high cloud.

For the South Island, expect sunny areas and increasing high cloud in the east, while cloud persists in the west along with steady rain.
Showers move into Southland then Otago during the evening, along with a southwest wind change.
