‘No Tsunami risk’ after PNG quake

> From the WeatherWatch archives

There’s been a 7.6 magnitude earthquake off Papua New Guinea.

It was located at a depth of 33 kilometres.

There’s no tsunami threat to New Zealand.

However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre says waves reaching one to three metres are possible along some coasts of Papua New Guinea.

Tidal waves are also possible for the coasts of Australia, Japan, the Philippines and many of the Pacific islands.
