NEW POLL: Were you hit by the storm?

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Well, power company Vector called it ‘the worst storm since 1975’, and judging by the correspondence coming in from our readers, it lived up to the hype!

Roads were closed, power was cut, and buildings were evacuated – but this week our poll is asking you personally: How badly did the storm hit your place?

Let us know by voting on our polls page, here – and leave a comment below this article letting us know where you were at the time! We will collate the results and look back on some readers’ experiences next week.

No storm down here in Paekok. Just rain and SE, but the Sou Easter wasn’t freezing cold or anything approaching severe. No where near winter material.

We got the wind and the rain. Over 200mls in 48 hours from Monday to Wednesday.  The wind was really scarey, I was up all night, and hubby didn’t go move cows till after it dropped about 7am. We are on the Te Pahu side of Pironga Mountain. So pretty high up, we did losse power for a while (14hrs) so had no water either. All fun and games when you live in a area like this.

200mm – 200mls is a large glass of wine.

In Whangarei we got the rain but fortunately not the winds, the area around our patch which backs onto a river was very wet with the river the highest in a long while. If this had been summertime I would have called it a cyclone as it had all the same ingredients minus the high winds.

We were lucky compared to many others further south.
