Morning situation

Rain is falling over western and southern regions of the South Island this morning with some heavy downpours being reported in Gore and Lumsden with lighter falls around Wanaka and Queenstown.

As predicted, Milford Sound, Hokitika and Greymouth are seeing some torrential rain at times.Thunderstorms haven’t been too numerous as of yet but are expected to develop throughout the day.

Temperatures across much of the country are near enough average this morning with the driest conditions expected in the north and east of the North Island and the coldest areas should be in the far south and then the east of the mainland later in the day.
