Another band of rain, potentially heavy, still looks likely to cross Northland early next week according to WeatherWatch.co.nz forecasters.
Head weather analyst Philip Duncan says with the recent flood events this is another rain event to watch. “On its own this wouldnt cause too many problems but on top of the recent heavy rain it wont take much additional rain to cause more slips, flooding and potential road closures”.
Mr Duncan says the wettest weather for Northand and the upper North Island looks likely Tuesday PM and early Wednesday PM at this early stage.
“By Monday evening we expect a low in the Tasman Sea to move towards the North Island. Like we saw a couple of weeks ago we have a big high to the east which is a blocking high and may slow this rain band down over Northland”.
It was this set up two weeks ago that caused significant floods across the region – the blocking high allowed rain bands to stall over Northland. While this time around it doesn’t look as severe, it does have the potential to drive in heavy sub-tropical-like rain over Northland and once again cause more complications.
WeatherWatch.co.nz will continue to have daily updates on this future rain event.
