12 Noon Update
If you’re heading to the beach later today then there’s more good news – the summer weather will continue for most places east of the main divides.
Yesterday temperatures in the South soared to 30 degrees with 32 being reported in Alexandra and Ashburton. 31 was recorded in Dunedin and 28 in Christchurch.
Today a cooler south west change will move up the South Island however from Canterbury northwards temperatures are again rising into the late 20s fanned by warm, strong, nor’westers.
In the North Island Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne will be the warmest spots again reaching the mid to late 20s by mid afternoon thanks to those warmer winds.
However a number of main centres, especially northern and western areas, will be cloudier.
Current Hot Spots (as of 11am)
Whangarei, Blenheim: 21
Hastings, Christchurch: 24
Timaru: 27
Oamaru: 22
