Here’s what is making the weather headlines today…..

SHOWERS IN THE SOUTH

Most of New Zealand is dry today, Fiordland picks rain from this afternoon then moving into Southland and coastal Otago. Central Otago through to inland South Canterbury sees a few isolated showers this afternoon, clearing this afternoon.

The afternoon isolated showers are the result of some instability, the other areas of rain are due to a frontal zone.

TEMPERATURES

A bit cool to start this morning for inland areas, especially the inner North Island with lows around 2 or 3 degrees to start about the Central Plateau.

This afternoon temperatures warm up into the low to mid twenties, especially for the northeastern corner of the North Island.

COOL CHANGE TUESDAY / WEDNESDAY

A cool change pushes north over the South Island on Tuesday then the North Island on Wednesday bringing a temperature drop. Expect rain also, in the west at first then after a lag it pushes up the east coast.

Later on Wednesday sees most of the wet weather clear.
