Here’s what is making the weather headlines today…..
HEAVY RAIN EASTERN NORTH ISLAND
A southeasterly airflow moving around a low pressure system centred to the northeast of the country pumps in rain to the eastern side of the North Island today, heavy falls are possible.
A few watches and warnings have been issued by Metservice, more info here.
ISOLATED HEAVY AFTERNOON SHOWERS TODAY AND TOMORROW
Some instability forms this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon due to heating at the surface and a little cooling in the upper atmosphere. Thunderstorms may form.
Metservice has more details on their thunderstorm outlook, click here for more details.
RAIN OUTLOOK
Looking a little dry if anything over the next seven days precipitation wise, a good chunk of the North Island has an average amount of rainfall though with certain parts of the east coast benefiting from a few good falls today.
The drier than average outlook especially in regards to the South Island and Auckland / Northland is due to there being a higher likelihood of high pressure this week then low pressure. A front moving north on Thursday / Friday is the best chance for most regions to get a chunk of rain as it moves north.
The precipitation percentage of normal map below runs through to Monday 27th November. Blue colouring means that part of the country is likely to see more rainfall than would normally be expected at this time of year, red means less rainfall is expected and white is an average amount of rainfall. The more intense either red or blue then either scenario is more true.
