Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
PLENTY OF FRONTS THIS WEEK
Without getting overly detailed on specifics of this weeks weather lets list when various fronts moving through.
Monday – A front has already moved north over the South Island last night and continues northwards this morning, it reaches the North Island this afternoon. Another cold front moves into the lower South Island this morning. Western regions see rain with the first front, heavy falls too while showers are likely in the east with the second.
Tuesday – Our secondary cold front moving into the lower South Island this morning reaches the North Island on Tuesday although in a more weakened state, it will still bring showers as it moves northwards. There is also another front brushing the far south bringing a burst of rain or heavy showers.
Thursday – A cold front marches north over the South Island, reaching the North Island overnight. Strong northwesterlies ahead of the front, heavy rain in the west as it moves northwards. A secondary cold front moves onto the lower South Island overnight bringing a burst of rain or heavy showers then looks to pass out to the east on Friday at this stage.
Friday – The first cold front mentioned above for Thursday gradually moves over the North Island during Friday bringing rain or showers in the west (spits in the east) then off to the northeast later in the day.
Sunday – While a week away another cold front may move north over the country on Sunday.

TEMPERATURES WARM IN THE EAST
Thanks to a northwesterly airflow temperatures for eastern regions are warm today, this will cool down from midday for Canterbury as a southerly airflow starts to develop.
The eastern North Island has the warmest high’s reaching into the early twenties.
STRONG WINDS ON THURSDAY
While winds may be strong for various regions at various times this week, Thursday in particular sees a strong northwesterly airflow develop ahead of a cold front.
That’ll be a day to keep an eye on in regards to strong northwesterlies ease of the Main Divide for the South Island and through Cook Strait.
