A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today with yesterdays unstable showers over the North Island having moved away to the northeast. Meanwhile a few cold fronts move into the far south this evening.
North Island
Partly cloudy skies and occasional showers in the west with southwesterly winds, freshening from this afternoon. Taranaki through to Kapiti stays dry and winds are more from the west or northwest, they still strengthen from afternoon. Wairarapa is sunny, further north expect morning cloud and a few showers then becoming mostly sunny this afternoon with southerlies dying away then tending east to northeast after midday.
South Island
Mostly cloudy along the West Coast with showers moving in this morning, rain for Fiordland this afternoon then pushing north this evening, southwesterlies. Any morning cloud for Nelson and Marlborough clears then mostly sunyn with a touch of high cloud. Along the east coast expect mostly sunny weather with a touch of high cloud, winds mostly from the north or northwest but perhaps tending onshore near the coast this afternoon. Some rain moves into Southland this afternoon. Winds strengthen in the south later this afternoon or evening with coastal gales possible for Southland and Otago.
