Monday’s national forecast – Southeasterly airflow

A south to southeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand today between high to the southwest and a low to the northeast.

North Island

Cloudy in the east today with showers, snow flurries to 500m, perhaps 400m about the ranges of Wairarapa. Out west conditions are drier with partly cloudy skies although a shower may sneak in south of Taranaki at times spreading from the east. Expect showers for Coromandel and Northland (especially in the east). Winds from the southeast, strong about some coastal parts.

South Island

Mostly cloudy in the east with showers, inland Southland / central Otago has sunny spells. Showers about coastal Otago clear this afternoon then clearing Canterbury in the evening, once showers clear cloud starts to break away. Snow flurries to 500m, perhaps 400m Banks Peninsula northwards. The West Coast has a sunny day today, Nelson has a mix of sun and cloud.
