Monday’s national forecast – Some rain, conditions clear up further south

A messy frontal zone lies over the North Island today meanwhile conditions clear up further south, later today or overnight a cold front approaches the far south moving in from the west.

North Island

Morning rain south of Auckland in the west eases to showers this afternoon, some sun may break through otherwise a bit cloudy, longer dry areas by evening. Westerly winds. North of Auckland is a little drier with some sun then the odd shower develops in the west midday onwards. Morning rain in the east breaks to afternoon sun.

South Island

Rain north of Hokitika out west eases to the odd shower first in the morning, clearing evening, southwesterlies. Early showers clear Nelson then some sun breaks through. Early rain eases to the odd shower for Marlborough, clearing afternoon then some sun may start to break through, winds are fairly light about Nelson / Marlborough. Canterbury has morning showers (rain for North Canterbury) then clearing in the afternoon and sun breaking through, northeasterlies.

Partly cloudy for South Westland, the odd shower moves into Fiordland during the morning then elsewhere after midday with northerly winds. Any morning cloud about Southland and Central Otago clears then mostly sunny, cloud doesn’t clear coastal Otago till afternoon, some high cloud moves in from the west. Winds from the north. Rain for Fiordland from evening then about coastal Southland overnight.
