Monday’s national forecast – Showers in the north

A southeasterly airflow lies over the North Island today bringing showers in the east and north, a ridge of high pressure further south brings dry weather.

North Island

Partly cloudy skies out west with a few showers for Coromandel and north of Auckland, from afternoon showers or spits becoming a little more widespread for the upper North Island. Showers all day for regions in the east (Gisborne to Wairarapa). Rain moves into East Cape, Gisborne and Great Barrier Island and Northland overnight with heavy falls possible. Southeasterly winds, gusty in the northeast (East Cape through to eastern Northland).

South Island

Mostly sunny weather, some cloud Banks Peninsula northwards in the east. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes for most, east to northeast winds becoming quite fresh in the afternoon along the east coast. A touch of high cloud may develop in the west later in the day.
