Monday’s national forecast – Rain in the north

A large high pressure system sits out to our east today meanwhile there is a low to our northwest, between the two an east to northeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand.

North Island

Cloudy for the upper North Island with with blustery easterlies, rain north of about the Waikato sinks a little further southwards this evening getting into Taranaki and the Central North Island. The east coast has a cloudy day with the odd light shower or drizzle patch, setting in a little more this evening. South of Taranaki though to Wellington has some sun today and high cloud.

South Island

Mostly sunny weather with any early cloud in the east breaking away, east to northeasterly winds pick up a touch in the east this afternoon. Fiordland has some cloud, chance of a light coastal shower. Southland and Otago may have some high cloud today.
