Monday’s national forecast – Mainly settled but the odd shower

Conditions are mainly settled across New Zealand today thanks to high pressure covering the country, however there is a little instability still thanks to relatively cool upper air over the South Island and high surface moisture for northeastern parts of the North Island

North Island

Chance of a morning fog or mist patch for inland areas then clearing, Taranaki and Kapiti could have a few light morning showers then clearing. A mix of sun and cloud otherwise with showers in the northeast from Northland through to East Cape, conditions are humid in the northeast with showers possibly becoming heavy this afternoon with a risk of isolated thunder. Later this evening or overnight there may be some rain for East Cape, Gisborne and perhaps eastern Bay Of Plenty. Light winds this morning then afternoon sea breezes.

South Island

Areas of mist or fog possible this morning then clearing, a mix of sun and cloud otherwise with a few showers for the West Coast this morning then thinning out. About inland hills and ranges isolated showers developing this afternoon with the risk of a heavy fall and thunder, the greatest chance is about the lower South Island then tapers off further north. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
