High pressure covers most of New Zealand today and we have a frontal system straddling the far south.

North Island

Some cloud in the west this morning then breaking to sunny areas, westerly quarter winds. Wellington and Wairarapa are a little cloudy with the chance of a shower or two, cloud breaks in the evening. Hawkes Bay and Gisborne are mainly sunny, there may be some evening cloud.

South Island

Partly cloudy along the West Coast, there may be a light shower or two, rain for Fiordland. Nelson and Buller have mainly sunny weather with onshore winds this afternoon. Mostly cloudy for Southland and Otago with the odd coastal shower, rain overnight for Southland, Central Otago sees sunny spells. Canterbury and Marlborough are mostly cloudy, chance of a light coastal shower or drizzle patch then cloud breaks away this evening, east to northeasterly winds.
