Monday’s national forecast – Low moves over the North Island

A low moves over the North Island this morning then away to the southeast meanwhile a southwesterly airflow freshens further south.

North Island

Cloudy areas and showers for the upper North Island with northerlies changing southwest this morning, there could be an isolated heavy fall this afternoon then easing this evening and showers thinning out or clearing. Showers for Wellington and Wairarapa this morning then spreading northwards this afternoon as southwesterlies strengthen, Napier northwards may see showers turn to thunderstorms. Starting to clear from the south overnight.

South Island

Showers about Southland spread into Otago this morning as southwesterlies freshen, a few showers move into Canterbury this afternoon then eventually Marlborough and Nelson meanwhile showers down south clear this evening. The West Coast has a mainly sunny day however southern Fiordland has a few showers this morning then clearing, Buller this evening then gets a few showers.
