Monday’s national forecast – Instability in the north

A front moves over the North Island today, some instability with the front and just in behind. A low sits just off to the east.

North Island

Possibly dry at first for the upper North Island then showers move in this morning as westerlies change southwest, showers may be heavy with thunder, easing this afternoon as a front clears away to the northeast, by evening only the odd shower remains in the west. Isolated showers in the southwest, the odd one may be heavy with thunder and hail, clearing this evening. Showers for Wellington move into Wairarapa this morning then further north this afternoon with a southwest change, showers may be heavy with thunder and hail, showers clearing this evening but expect rain for Wellington and Wairarapa.

South Island

Mostly sunny with light winds ….. however, showers for Buller clear this morning. Showers in the east Banks Peninsula northwards gradually fizzle out during today, clearing evening with fresh southwesterlies easing. Expect some cloud for Fiordland, showers later this evening or overnight.
