A weakening cold front reaches the eastern North Island today meanwhile a high pressure system pushes in from the Tasman Sea.

North Island

Mostly sunny for the upper North Island, a few clouds about, some high cloud too, southwesterly winds easing. This evening cloud thickens for Bay Of Plenty with the odd shower then pushing into Coromandel overnight with northeasterlies. Some sun first thing along the east coast then cloud thickens this morning with a few light showers moving in with southerly winds, clearing this evening. Any morning cloud clears in the west (Taranaki to Kapiti) then mostly sunny with southeasterly winds, afternoon westerlies for northern Taranaki.

South Island

Morning cloud breaks away for Fiordland then mostly sunny, cloud thickens further north along the West Coast this morning with the odd shower moving in, clearing away later this afternoon, Buller stays dry and mostly sunny for much of today, winds from the southwest. Mostly sunny for Nelson then a few clouds this afternoon as light winds tend to the north. Partly cloudy for Marlborough, the odd shower in the south. Mostly cloudy for Canterbury, a few light showers, drying up this afternoon but the odd one may linger for Kaikoura overnight, southerlies tend to the east later. Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells for Southland and Otago.
