Monday’s national forecast – High moves in

A high pressure system lies over the South Island today meanwhile the North Island has southerlies, the high will expand further north later today.

North Island

Mostly cloudy along the east coast with showers, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne has rain this morning then easing, showers clearing Wairarapa this afternoon then further north later on. Out west expect sunnier and drier weather. Bay Of Plenty has showers clearing this morning and pushing into Auckland then reaching into Northland this afternoon with a southeasterly wind shift.

South Island

Sunny with a cold start about inland areas, perhaps even a light frost. Some cloud in the east with a few coastal showers Banks Peninsula northwards clearing away as the day moves along. Buller has some cloud and the risk of a coastal shower. Southland and Otago may see a touch of high cloud. Winds are generally light but east to northeast winds freshen up about coastal Otago this afternoon, perhaps even coastal Canterbury for a time.
