Monday’s national forecast – Front moves in from the west

A northerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a front starts to pass over the country moving in from the west this afternoon, winds change west to northwesterly in behind.

North Island

Mostly cloudy in the west with a few showers, showers increasing around midday perhaps turning to rain then easing again in the evening. Eastern regions stay mainly dry with some high cloud which breaks away later this afternoon or evening, a few spits may get into the Wairarapa however. Winds from the north or northwest.

South Island

Showers turning to rain for the West Coast this morning, rain becoming heavy around midday with a chance of thunderstorms then easing by evening as northerlies change to the west or northwest. High cloud in the east breaks away late afternoon or evening. Southland, Otago and Nelson, Marlborough at the other end sees a few spits or showers from this afternoon, clearing this evening. Northerly or maybe even northeasterly winds tend northwest this evening in the east.
