Monday’s national forecast – Front from the west

An occluded front moves in from the west today, northerly quarter winds ahead of the front, changing westerly in behind. Western regions see heavy rain, the West Coast this morning then the western North Island from afternoon.

North Island

Cloud down along the east coast with showers for Gisborne and parts of Hawkes Bay, cloud in the northeast from East Cape up through to Northland, eastern Northland has a few showers. This afternoon rain moves into western regions with heavy falls possible, rain reaches Bay Of Plenty this evening.

South Island

Heavy rain along the West Coast eases to showers this afternoon, rain moves into Nelson / Marlborough this afternoon with heavy falls possible, easing this evening and clearing overnight. Scattered rain for Southland and Otago clears before midday then brighter this afternoon. Canterbury is mostly cloudy, a few spits of rain possible then brightening up this afternoon a touch although there will still be high cloud.
