A cold front pushes off the North Island this morning away to the northeast meanwhile another one moves northwards over the South Island. Showers for the North Island ease or clear away today meanwhile in the south, showers in the east at least ramp up for a time then clear away this evening. Another cold front overnight brings rain to the far south.

North Island
Early rain eases to showers and increasing sunny spells, becoming dry midday onwards about Northland, Auckland and the Bay Of Plenty, northwesterly winds tend westerly overnight. Any morning high cloud clears then mostly sunny, north of about Mahia Peninsula in the morning there’s some rain then clearing, northwesterly winds. Showers for Wellington gradually clearing from afternoon and sun developing, gusty northwesterlies.
South Island
Morning rain for the West Coast eases to showers, long dry spells by evening with northwesterlies having then tended southwest. Morning showers for Nelson and Marlborough then afternoon sunny areas break through, northwesterlies tend to the west in the evening. Showers about Southland move into Otago around midday then Canterbury this afternoon as south to southwesterly winds push through, sun before showers move in. There’s a chance for Canterbury that showers may become heavy with some thunder then clearing in the evening. Overnight a cold front moves into Southland and Fiordland bringing rain.
