A low pressure system moves over the South Island today and along with it comes a front which moves over most of the country from west to east as the day progresses. Many regions should expect some rain for a time as this front passes over then easing to showers behind it in western parts of the country.

Northland
Cloudy spells and the odd shower, mainly in the west this morning then
spreading elsewhere for a time in the afternoon as northerly winds change
westerly.
Highs: 23-24

Bay Of Islands

Cloudy spells and sunny areas, northerlies this morning. A few brief
showers pass through in the afternoon as winds change westerly, any remaining
showers clear in the evening.
High: 24

Auckland

Cloud increases this morning, showers develop late morning with northerly
winds. Winds change brisk west to southwest early afternoon with showers
gradually easing. A few sunny spells may sneak through after the wind change
moves through.
High: 23

Central North Island, Lake Taupo, Waikato,
Coromandel & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, long dry spells too with northerly
winds. Rain develops early afternoon then clears in the evening, expect a
westerly change late afternoon. The Coromandel and Bay Of Plenty should see
sunny spells this morning with light northerlies, showers possibly heavy pass
through there in the afternoon then clear evening as westerlies move in.

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with north to northeasterly winds, some rain develops about
the Wairarapa early afternoon becoming heavy with thunderstorms, a few isolated
showers spread into the Hawkes Bay mid afternoon too one or two of which may
become heavy also. Showers or areas of rain clears in the evening as winds
change northwest.
Highs: 26-27

Western North Island

Sunny spells and increasing cloud south of Taranaki with northerly winds.
Rain develops around midday then winds change westerly mid to late afternoon
with a period of heavy showers then easing evening. About Taranaki expect cloudy
skies, areas of rain develop this morning with northeasterly winds. Winds tend
more northwest around late morning with heavy falls possible, finally winds
change to the west late afternoon with rain easing to showers.

Wellington

Increasing cloud this morning with northerlies building. Scattered rain
develops early afternoon then clears in the evening as winds tend more
northwest.
Highs: 21-22

Nelson & Kateriteri

Rain develops this morning with northeasterly winds, then clearing late
afternoon as winds change westerly. Skies clearing up and there should be some
evening sun before the sun goes down.
Highs: 22-23

Canterbury & Marlborough

High cloud increases this morning, north to northeasterly winds. A period
of rain moves over in the afternoon then clears in the evening as winds change
west to northwest.
Highs: 25-26

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls about Fiordland and South Westland this morning,
moving into North Westland this afternoon. As this band of rain moves north
winds change west to southwest behind it with rain easing to showers.
High: 18

Coastal Otago

Cloudy with northeasterlies, rain develops around midday or early
afternoon. A few heavy falls possible late afternoon as winds change
southwesterly. Rain clears later in the evening.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Central Otago

Becoming cloudy this morning with rain developing mid to late morning,
northerly winds. Rain eases to showers in the afternoon with a west to
southwesterly change. Showers clear later in the evening.
Highs: 17-20
